The Fly Rod Crosby Outdoor Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annually by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to an individual who demonstrates a lifelong commitment to the stewardship and wise use of Maine's natural resources and has been active in Maine's outdoor traditions for many years.
The award also honors the legacy of Cornelia "Fly Rod" Crosby, celebrating her lifelong work promoting and showcasing Maine's outdoors.
Cornelia Fly Rod Crosby is widely recognized as Maine's first registered guide—a program she helped establish—but her influence extended far beyond guiding. She served as an outdoor mentor and ambassador for the state, writing a popular outdoor column for 15 years in the Phillips Phonograph, where she shared stories, tips, and experiences that helped others enjoy Maine's natural resources. She also organized Maine sporting exhibits at major national sportsman's shows in Boston, New York, and Philadelphia, bringing attention to the state's rich outdoor heritage. Whether guiding newcomers on their first outdoor experience or helping seasoned outdoorspeople refine their skills, she played a key role in connecting people with Maine's woods and waters.
Nomination Information
To be eligible, nominees must have a combined total of 40 years of hunting, trapping, and fishing experience in Maine. For example, this may include 20 years fishing, 10 years trapping, and 10 years hunting; or 30 years fishing and 10 years hunting. Ideal candidates will also demonstrate a strong commitment to mentoring, teaching, or instructing others in outdoor activities.
Nominations should include the nominees name, address, phone number, photograph and a few paragraphs about the individual, their experience in the Maine outdoors, and an explanation of why they are a deserving candidate. The nominators contact information should also be included.

The recipient(s) of this year's Fly Rod Crosby Lifetime Outdoor Achievement Award will be selected by a committee of individuals from the Department and will be recognized at the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine Annual Banquet this September.
