New Video Highlights Palm Beach County Sportfishing History
Since the early part of the 20th century offshore sportfishing has had a significant impact on tourism and the cultural identity of the Palm Beaches. A new video released by the venerable West Palm Beach Fishing Club (WPBFC) and its charitable foundation the Palm Beach County Fishing Foundation (PBCFF) focuses on the history of sportfishing through the lens of longtime captains and industry leaders.
"We are worried that this special part of local history is in jeopardy of being lost because the region is growing so rapidly, and so many of the older boat captains are passing on. No organization is in a better position to preserve this special part of Palm Beach County's history than us," said WPBFC President Tom Bzura. Sportfishing for Atlantic sailfish and other prolific saltwater species helped put the Palm Beaches 'on the map', notably during the post-depression era.
The video features historic movie reel clips and photographs from the Fishing Club's extensive archives, as well as interviews with legendary fishing captains who once plied the waters off the Palm Beaches. The video is the second in a series of productions that highlight Palm Beach County's rich sportfishing history and its far-reaching impact on the sport.
The short film was produced by Jeff & Heather Aderman, owners of award-winning AA Video Services. Future videos documenting Palm Beach County's storied sportfishing history will be forthcoming.
"We don't want to see this important part of Palm Beach County's history get lost. Telling this story is important," added Bzura. Here is a link to the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpkEpXSFl0M
