Close to the Metro and offering tons of public access, Lake Thunderbird should be at the top of your list of lakes to fish this fall.
Lake Thunderbird will soon be entering one of the best fishing periods of the year. Fall brings cooler water and hungry fish chasing bait, making it a great time to get on the water.
For largemouth bass, start looking around points, shorelines, coves and creek channels. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jerkbaits and topwater lures are all good options as bass move shallower and feed more aggressively. White bass can also provide plenty of action when they begin schooling around baitfish.
If you're after crappie, keep an eye on brush piles, standing timber and other deeper structure. Minnows and small jigs are good choices when you locate fish.
Don't overlook the catfish! As temperatures cool, channel and blue catfish can really start to bite. Try fishing cut bait, worms or stinkbait around creek channels, points and deeper areas for your best shot at finding them.
Lake Thunderbird covers more than 5,000 acres and offers plenty of opportunities for anglers just east of Norman. With fall approaching, now is a great time to plan a trip and take advantage of the changing bite.
