BRP Continues Exit from Boating Businesses

BRP — maker of Sea-Doo watercraft and the parent company of boat brands including Manitou and Quintrex — has confirmed it is cutting 61 workers at its global headquarters in Sturtevant, in the US state of Wisconsin.

The news was confirmed in a 5 June notice filed with the state. The notice states that 39 workers were laid off immediately. The rest will lose their jobs in the coming weeks, and that all the layoffs are permanent.

None of the workers are represented by a union, and all those who have lost their jobs will get paid for the time they would have been given notice. The layoffs include engineers, planners and technicians.

The BRP plant — the firm’s largest facility in the US — builds boats and other water recreation products.

In May 2024, BRP laid off 298 employees in two rounds of job cuts at its Sturtevant plant, citing a softening demand.

In its financial results for 2025, BRP reported a decline in both revenue and profits, noting that sales have been impacted by volatile conditions and ongoing uncertainty, including global tariff disputes. As a result, the firm has decided to defer providing financial guidance for fiscal year 2026.

In April, BRP agreed to sell its Alumacraft brand to Bryton Marine Group, a family-owned company operating in Washington State, US, and British Columbia, Canada. The day prior, BRP also sold its aluminium boat brand Telwater to Yamaha Motor Australia, a subsidiary of Yamaha Motor.

These transactions came on the heels of BRP’s decision to sell its marine businesses and to double down on its powersports activities, in a bid to boost near-term profitability.
