OXE Marine Teams with GM Duramax for Diesel Outboard Powertrain

Sweden-based OXE Marine announced a supply-and-development agreement wherein GM Marine becomes the diesel outboard manufacturer’s supplier of powertrain solutions. The collaboration launches with the introduction of GM’s Duramax engine family into the marine sector, adapted through OXE’s patented transmission system.

“The agreement with GM Marine marks an important strategic step for OXE Marine’s future,” OXE chief executive Paul Frick said in a statement. “GM, a global leader in the automotive industry with decades of experience and commitment to the marine sector, brings a clear, long-term perspective on diesel and other powertrain technologies. The co-development of the LZ0 project highlights GM’s commitment and leverages their vast expertise to advance marine propulsion.

The company said the agreement “enables OXE to bring to market a commercially rated outboard developed for professional users with demanding needs.”

“This agreement with OXE allows us to bring our renowned Duramax range — trusted in pickups across the U.S. and globally — into the outboard marine segment,” said Tony Brower, director of powertrain solutions at GM. “OXE’s innovative transmission system positions them to effectively integrate and extend GM’s powertrains for the marine market.”

The initial focus will be the co-development of the Duramax LZ0 3.0 inline-6 engine, which will be available in outboard and inboard configurations, broadening OXE’s offerings.
