Habitat: They Actually ARE Making More of It!

Want to help with Florida Habitat Restoration? Then, join CCA Florida and the University of Central Florida to make oyster rings for oyster reef restoration on 10/12, 10/26, 11/2, and 11/16 from 9 a.m. to noon.

To participate, please RSVP to Greg Harrison, 407-276-6141. The events will be held at 12724 Ara Drive (UCF Biology Field Research Center). As a reminder, this process involves working with cement, so you will get dirty. Please wear your “play clothes” and closed-toe shoes. Volunteers must be at least 18.

The oyster rings created will be deployed next summer as part of UCF’s successful Mosquito Lagoon restoration efforts and the return of seagrass. To date, more than 120 oyster reefs have been restored, adding over 20 million water-filtering oysters!

If you cannot attend the events or have kids under 18, then call the Marine Discovery Center at (386) 428-482-8520 in New Smyrna Beach, as they host ongoing restoration projects and special events.
