Anglers Are Primary Fundraisers for Fishery Conservation

Fishing Industry Executives, along with Outdoor Stewards of Conservation, Inform and Thank Anglers for Being ‘Primary Funders of Conservation’ in Newly Released Video.

By purchasing fishing licenses and excised taxed products such as fishing rods, reels, lures and motor boat fuel, millions of American fishermen are truly ‘Primary Funders of Conservation’. Unfortunately, many anglers are unaware of how important their contributions are to funding conservation.

During ICAST 2023, Outdoor Stewards of Conservation Foundation (OSCF) partnered with the American Sportfishing Association (ASA) and top industry manufacturers to better inform and thank anglers for leading the way in conservation funding.

ASA President, Glenn Hughes noted; “We have such a successful funding model that sustains healthy fisheries across the U.S. that folks need to know how it works. State wildlife agencies, fishing industry manufacturers and everyday anglers have been making conservation work for nearly a century and ASA is happy to help spread that message.”

OSCF’s latest ‘Connecting with Conservation’ video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiCphYllJHo features seven fishing industry executives from; Rapala, Shimano, St. Croix, Pure Fishing, Pradco, Z-Man, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, educating and thanking their customers for being primary funders of conservation.

John Bloom, Board Treasurer for Outdoor Stewards of Conservation Foundation stated; “I’ve enjoyed fishing for more than 40 years and want my fellow anglers to know just how important they are to funding fish conservation in America. OSCF’s ‘Connecting with Conservation’ video series is a terrific first-step in explaining how conservation is funded.”

This 'Connecting with Conservation' video is part of a series of videos produced by OSCF with the support of The Murray Road Agency. Funding for this project is provided by the Multistate Conservation Grant Program (F23AP003940), a program supported with funds from the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program and jointly managed by the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
