A unified recreational Southern Flounder harvest season will take place from September 1 through September 14 this year. The daily limit is one fish per person, with a minimum size of 15 inches. The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission released separate announcements outlining identical rules across their management jurisdictions.

The recreational quota for 2025 is expected to fall between 213,000 and 266,000 pounds, depending on allocation decisions made during the Marine Fisheries Commission’s August meeting. Details of the 2025 commercial harvest season for Southern Flounder will be provided by the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries in the coming weeks.
