New Premium Rods from St. Croix

PARK FALLS, WIS. – Perfection – in any arena – is a moving target. Its pursuit demands continual thought and attention combined with the skills and resources necessary to execute at the highest level. It’s also fleeting. Nothing and no one stays on top forever. Conditions change. Opportunities present themselves. The bar gets moved.

This is the story of St. Croix Rod, the family-owned, American company that’s delivered anglers the BEST RODS ON EARTH for 77 years – not by remaining within the guardrails of what can be done, but by continually questioning and testing what might be done to further improve the experiences of all anglers.

LEGEND X2 is the latest example of such efforts and proof of what’s possible when maintaining an angler-driven mindset. A premium-performance rod series consisting of 22 models, LEGEND X2 combines first-ever materials and technologies with next-level American engineering and design with the goal of providing no-sacrifices performance to the most discriminating and demanding anglers on the planet.

Handcrafted for Anglers Who Demand Perfection

Built start-to-finish by the skilled and experienced American rodsmiths in Park Falls, Wisconsin, the all-new LEGEND X2 Series pushes every boundary for the benefit of technique-minded anglers seeking absolute performance and zero compromises in sensitivity, weight, balance, ergonomics, and appearance.

Materially Different

LEGEND X2 is the lightest rod series ever produced by St. Croix rod. It's also among the strongest and most durable. Over ten years in the making, the proprietary SCVII carbon fiber material employed in LEGEND X2 blanks is nearly 12% lighter, over 27% more sensitive, and even more durable than St. Croix’s SCV carbon fiber material.

Thinner and denser, SCVII carbon material exhibits improved fiber alignment for increased strength, sensitivity, and recovery. SCVII also incorporates graphene – the strongest and stiffest substance known to science – within the resins of the SCVII pre-preg material. Because graphene is 100% carbon, its addition facilitates an actual chemical bond between the extremely dense SCVII carbon fibers and the resin itself, dramatically increasing the strength-to-weight ratio of LEGEND X2’s blanks. That means less material can be used to craft a noticeably lighter rod while also increasing strength. Graphene also maximizes LEGEND X2’s remarkable recovery and torsional stability, both of which contribute to increased accuracy and sensitivity.

Further, the addition of St. Croix’s proprietary VEIL scrim – previously limited to use in select St. Croix surf rods – dramatically bolsters LEGEND X2’s strength and impact resistance.

Designed for Supreme Balance and Control

Beyond LEGEND X2’s one-of-a-kind blanks, next-generation split-grip TRIGON handles combine the comfort and control benefits of anthropometric design with the uncompromising weight savings of first-ever precision-machined super-grade cork. Grips are shorter than original TRIGON, with more centralized mass for improved feel, control, and balance. A rear-trigger design harnesses the human power of proprioception for intuitive and repeatable casting accuracy.

“Once the hard work of developing our all-new SCVII material was complete – a task that took nearly ten years – It would have been easy to let this new LEGEND X2 series become defined by that incredible material alone,” says St. Croix Vice President of Innovation and self-proclaimed bass geek, Ryan Teach. “But we wanted this new series to be a true giant slayer, so we also innovated beyond the blank.”

Teach says LEGEND X2’s design and engineering teams began by taking handle design where it’s never been before. “We started with the proven anthropometric TRIGON profile we pioneered on our Mojo Bass and PHYSYX series rods,” he says. “We then refined the design, adding more centralized mass and shortening the grips. To make a significantly lighter TRIGON handle, we CNC-machine LEGEND X2’s grips out of super-grade cork, which is a first in the industry. We did the same with the rear grip at the rod butt, while preserving the rear-trigger design from our PHYSYX series. The result is a super-light TRIGON split-grip handle that compliments LEGEND X2’s exotic SCVII blank to take balance, control, and accuracy to all-new levels.”

LEGEND X2’s finishing touches include a raw/gloss version of St. Croix’s own DYNAMIX carbon fiber reel seat, a one-of-a-kind skeletonized aluminum reel seat nut, rigid titanium guides with extremely hard and lightweight silicon nitride rings, and a beautiful 3/1000’s-inch thick electrostatically applied paint finish that adds so little weight, it is undetectable on most scales.
