Pleasanton Fly Fishing Show Feb. 28

Pleasanton, CA – Nearly $100,000 in door prizes will be up for grabs when the annual Pleasanton Fly Fishing Show kicks off the 2025 angling season Feb. 28 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.

Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Fri.; 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Sat; and 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sun. Fly Fishing Show® admission is $20 for one day, $35 for two days and $45 for three. Children under age 5 are free as are Boy and Girl Scouts under age 16 in uniform. Children 6-12 are $5. Active military with an ID are $10.

The weekend-long ode to fly fishing will include classes, seminars, and demonstrations, together with wall-to-wall displays of everything that’s new in the sport from rods and reels to boots, waders, personal watercraft and the vacation destinations to use them.

There will be 17 classes with fly fishing experts including a day-long special session with Dr. Gary Borger and Mac Brown on Feb. 27, the day before the show opens. Enrollment in the Borger/Brown 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. course is $625. Regular half-day classes are $95.

Regular classes include Increase Your Distance with Mac Brown, Women’s 101 Fly Casting with Glenda Powell, Mastering Fly Fishing with a Tenkara Rod – from Zero to Hero with Luong Tam, Getting Started Fly Fishing with Frank Burr, Casting Strategies with Gary Borger, and Sight Fishing Secrets for Large Trout Hunting with Landon Mayer.

Among the door prizes are six days for four guests at 4Corners Costa Rica Lodge, value $9,995; Golden Dorado trip for two by Nervous Waters, value $9,500; a week at Alaska Trophy Adventures Lodge in King Salmon, Alaska, value $7,500; a week at Rio Manso Lodge in Northern Patagonia, value $7,000; Belize River Lodge, Belize for two anglers, value $6,400; a week at Chile Trout, value $6,190; and three days at Fish Partner Lodge, Iceland, value $6,375; and Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures, $1,500 credit on any trip.

There are 91 Destination Theater presentations on tap ranging from Fishing Through the Seasons on the Lower Yuba River, Fly Fishing Lake Almanor, Pyramid Lake, Where to Fish and When: a guide to fishing in California, the Truckee River: A Guides Perspective, and Fly Fishing for Trophy Striped Bass.

The 25 hour-long free seminars including Master Nymph Fishing Tactics with Mac Brown, Entomology for Angling with Maggie Heumann, Golden Trout: A California Treasure with Frank Burr, Pyramid Lake Today with Rob Anderson, Learn How to Fish One Fly to Catch All Your Fish with Landon Mayer, Fly Fishing the California Delta with John Sherman, Reading Waters with Gary Borger, and Lord of the Rings-Dry and Emerger Techniques for Stillwaters with Phil Rowley.

Nineteen casting demonstrations are scheduled at the indoor and outdoor ponds by Matt Heron, Gary Borger, George Revel, Mac Brown, Glenda Powell, Landon Mayer, and other professionals.

The California premiere of the two hour International Fly Fishing Film Festival is Feb. 28 at 6:30. Tickets are $17 in advance or $20 at the door. Among the festival films are Native Range – Native cutthroat trout in Utah; Fishing Diaries – Giant Trevally in the Seychelles; Silent Spotter – A deaf and mute guide in Xcalak, Mexico; Time Will Tell – Paul Puckett’s impact on the fly fishing world; Above the Clouds – Five friends on a journey into Colorado’s alpine; New Beginnings – Casa Mar and the legends Chico Fernandez and Dan Blanton; and Legacy – The life and story of Cathy and Barry Beck.

Attendees can cast their votes for the 2025 Consumer Choice Awards. There are 41 categories of new fly fishing products in the competition with awards to be made jointly by the Fly Fishing Show, Fly Fusion Magazine, and Fly Fishing Journeys.

Fly Fishers International (FFI) hosts the free Fly Fishing Learning Center with fly tying, casting instruction and other fly fishing information aimed at newcomers to the sport.
